George Washington was born on February 22, 1732 in Westmoreland County, Virginia. His father died when he was eleven years old so he grew up with his mother and stepfather who taught him about farming and managing land. When George turned 16, he inherited a large amount of land from his grandfather which made him very wealthy by colonial standards!
Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson was the author of the Declaration of Independence. He strongly believed in religious freedom and separation of church and state, which is why he wrote that “all men are created equal” rather than just white males! He also wanted slavery to be abolished but because Southern politicians opposed this idea, it never became law during his lifetime.
